SIZE CHART

AUSSIE MADE UNISEX MERINO THERMAL PANTS THAT HAVE POCKETS!

Our new Unisex Merino Thermal Bottoms are made from a stretchy Australian merino and elastane blend. Weighing in at 200gsm, these thermal leggings are ideal for most chilly conditions you're likely to be presented with in Australia and New Zealand.

Ethically made in Australia, our merino thermal bottoms incorporate a beautifully soft Ottie Merino-branded waistband, and a couple of external sewns pockets—so you don't get that annoying pocket bunch-up against your legs—because pants without pockets suck! At 200gsm, we're talkin' a great 'allrounder' thermal bottom.

Paired with a men's or women's merino thermal top, these merino thermals pants are a must for the well-prepared and cool weather hiker or skier.

- Australian merino and elastane blend—the best of ALL worlds in terms of performance, comfort, and durability (95% merino, 5% elastane)
- Pockets to keep them hands warm, or for handily stowing your phone, headlamp, or matches at camp or the hut
- Available in small to xx/large (see size chart)
- 100% mulesing-free
- Sweatshop-free!
- Made in Melbourne
Australian Made certified
- All the benefits of merino wool—odour resistant, moisture wicking, temperature regulating, super soft, biodegradable, and comfortable AF!
- Designed by hikers, for hikers (and and skiers and snowboarders and people who get cold!)

You may notice a bit of colour variation from the pics here. See colour swatch to get a better idea for the colour. We'll be getting some better product photography real soon. Including an awesome snowy winter shoot.

These pants do run small to size, luckily the XS had run out of stock and so I went with the Small. So glad I did as there would have been no way the XS would have fit. I'm a size 8 in jeans and the small is a good size fit. So make sure you size up 👍

Super comfy

Have worn these thermal bottoms all day while working from home since I got them 2 days ago. Comfy and warm, what more do you need? Sizes are quite small but I was warned about that before my order arrived, so my original XS was changed to a S by the friendly team before they were sent out.
I also have an Ottie tshirt that I bought for hiking, however it's such a great shape that I wear it way more often than I expected.

Unisex Merino Thermal Bottoms

Beautiful quality fabric and super warm! Just be sure to order a size larger than you would usually because the design is unexpectedly tight on the waist band, a bit low at the back of the waist and runs small generally. First-class customer service.

Nice fabric

The fabric is nice. The sizing is small, I would recommend going up 2 sizes if you prefer a looser fit. A bit short in the back for my taste.

The waist band is too tight

I feel the waist band requires more flexibility. The thermals are fine and stretchy but the band is too restrictive, so they are not as comfortable as I would like

Overrated

The stitching around the waistband came away the first time I pulled them on.

Excellent weight and fit

I bought both a short sleeved and long sleeved t for a recent hike and wore them almost exclusively for four weeks! They are a lovely weight and a flattering fit.

Merino Thermals FAQs

In thermals, you need stretch. This is so they sit nice and close to the skin and provide the best insulative qualities. Pure merino is stretchy but not quite enough. Our Australian merino/elastane blend gives you softness, stretchiness, as well as all the benefits of merino.

Why not?

You don't know you're missing a pocket until you need one. You're at Clinton Hut on the Milford Track or at a campsite on the Larapinta Track. Just in your thermal clobber—we hikers/trampers are all about high-fashion, after all—and you've nowhere to pop your headlamp or phone or pack of matches. Nice for warming the hands too.

Same as with t-shirts. 30 days. No fuss. We're happy to do size and change of mind exchanges or credits or refunds. They just need to come back to us in pristine, resellable condition. Email support@ottie.com.au before returning any items though so we can walk you through the process.

Oh, and with the bottoms, make sure you try them on with your undies on.

If you place an order now and choose to cancel the order before the thermals arrive that's perfectly fine. A credit or exchange or full refund is available - your choice.

Ah, the logistics of manufacturing clothing.

The charcoal marle these will be produced in are a 'custom colour' with our manufacturer. We sampled in black as we developed the product. So we had to get a bit creative in Photoshop for the initial product photos, just until we get out batch of photography samples and we do a full photoshoot. Hopefully in Kosciuszko National Park which'll be a stunning backdrop!

Around 35gsm in weight for a start. Our lightweight 100% merino tee is 165gsm and our thermals are 200gsm. Perfect for cooler conditions. And, our thermals are a merino/elastane blend, which lends itself a bit better to 'baselayer' wear.
